Summer is here and we’re happy to spotlight three integral members of the Gramercy team. From building to demolition to supporting our fleet and equipment, these Gramercy employees help keep us moving and completing projects successfully, safely and on time.

Martin Tofil, Safety Manager

Safety Manager, Martin Tofil

We’d first like to introduce you to our Safety Manager, Martin Tofil, CHST, CRIS.

Martin came to the US from Slovakia at the age of 10. As a child, he had a dream of becoming a pilot, but due to the high cost of training, he opted to start working in construction as a laborer after turning 18.

Through dedication and hard work, he progressed from being a laborer to a foreman, and eventually, a supervisor. Along the way, Martin pursued various safety certificates such as CHST and CRIS, which led him to venture into the safety side of construction, thanks to our safety consultant, Joseph Buda.

Martin met Joe when he was a supervisor for another construction company. On a scorching hot day in July, Joe approached him at a job site and asked a simple question, “What can I do to help you?” Martin, feeling the heat, responded, “We could use some water.” The following day, a truck arrived and delivered two pallets of water. Although it was a simple gesture, it made Martin realize that by understanding the field, he could establish meaningful connections. Instead of focusing on finding mistakes on job sites, he is driven to provide assistance to keep the employees safe.

Joe subsequently recommended Martin to Gramercy and his first project for Gramercy involved our MTA project at the Brooklyn Museum Station. Martin has been married for nearly 15 years and has a daughter named Cali. His wife works as a preschool teacher. About a decade ago, Martin achieved his lifelong dream and obtained his pilot’s license.

A visible symbol of his values, he has the word “Loyalty” tattooed on his hand, as he believes it to be one of the most important attributes a person can possess. We highly value Martin’s presence on our team. Thank you Martin for working with the office and the field keeping our most important asset safe..our team!

Patricio Barreiro, Welder

Welder, Patricio Barreiro

Next, we’re spotlighting Gramercy welder, Patricio Barreiro.

Patricio began working for Gramercy as a student a decade ago. Four years ago, he transitioned to a full-time position within the company. Following in the footsteps of his father Arturo, our master fabricator, it’s no surprise that Patrizio is becoming an experienced welder himself.

His responsibilities include working on fabrications, repairs, and welding projects. As the youngest of three brothers with one sister, Patrizio finds solace in his spare time by indulging in his passion for drawing and creating plastic sculptures.

Currently single, he jokingly claims to be married to his work. Patricio says he values his role at Gramercy because it has provided him with the opportunity to learn new things and develop valuable skills.

We extend our gratitude to Patricio for being an integral part of our team.

Jacob Kopolovich, Assistant Project Manager

Assistant Project Manager, Jacob Kopolovich

Meet Gramercy Assistant Project Manager Jacob Kopolovich, EIT. Throughout his life, Jacob’s passion for engineering stemmed from his fascination with the construction of structures, his affinity for building with Legos, and his love of mathematics and physics. It seemed only natural for him to pursue engineering as his career path.

Jacob’s journey with us began as an intern at Gramercy, where he completed two co-op terms in 2021 and 2022. After graduating from Drexel University with a degree in Civil Engineering, he came on board full-time at Gramercy and has become a valuable member of our team.

Outside of his work, Jacob finds joy in tutoring chess and swimming students. During his leisure time, he cherishes the company of his high school sweetheart, Yuval, and indulges in activities such as playing sports, reading, and golfing. Hailing from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, Jacob is the youngest of three siblings, with two older sisters.

The experience of being an intern has facilitated Jacob’s seamless integration into our company, and we have had the privilege of witnessing Jacob’s personal and professional growth. We eagerly anticipate his continued development within our organization and extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jacob for being an invaluable part of the Gramercy Team.
