Field Engineer
Position Duties:
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs by accurately measuring materials such as concrete, rebar, earthwork, piping, and structural steel from drawings and specifications.
- Develop detailed and itemized cost estimates for buildings, roads, bridges, foundations, drainage systems, utilities, and other civil works.
- Review civil engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand project scope, construction methods, and phasing.
- Perform unit rate analysis and maintain databases for labor, materials, and equipment specific to civil construction.
- Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitiveness and scope alignment.
- Integrate cost estimates with construction schedules and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to support budgeting and planning.
- Provide cost input based on site investigations, geotechnical reports, topographical surveys, and site access conditions.
- Participate in value engineering initiatives by proposing cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality or safety.
- Evaluate change orders and variations, preparing accurate pricing assessments during construction.
- Support cost monitoring activities by assisting project control teams with baseline data for tracking actual costs versus estimates.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience as a Field Engineer or in a similar role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in calculating material, labor, and equipment quantities from drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of unit rates, pricing structures, and cost control principles.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
- Software proficiency in estimating tools such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or On-Screen Takeoff.
- Experience with cost management software including Sage, HCSS, or Procore.
- Working knowledge of scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- CAD experience using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Familiarity with field and project management software including Procore, Trimble, and PlanGrid.
- Ability to use surveying instruments such as total stations or GPS for accurate positioning.
- Understanding of construction workflows, sequencing, methods, and materials.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and risk assessment skills including contingency planning.
